Vintage Photos Restored Into Stunning Whimsical Art By Jane Long

Posted on in Art / Illustrations · Design Showcase · Featured Creatives

Australian-based artist Jane Long has transformed WWI-era photos into stunningly beautiful and whimsical works or art.

These historic black and white photos were taken from the Costica Acsinte Archive. They were original glass-plate photos taken by Romanian photographer, Costică Acsinte who also documented WWI. According to Long, people rarely smiled while taking photos back in the day. But that was the photographic practices at that time before smiling in a photo became a common practice.

So, using her creative imagination and photo-retouching skills, Long has taken a collection of his glass-plate photographs to digitally recolour and rework them into a modern and fantasy-like series of images. Long wanted the public to see these figures as real people and celebrate their lives from the past. She calls the series Dancing With Costica. For more of Jane Long, you can see her work here.
