What are the most popular types of digital marketing in use today?
1. SEO
It’s short for Search Engine Optimization and involves keyword research, on-page optimization, content structure optimization, link building, and other techniques to increase organic (free) traffic.
How to use SEO?
They are one of the most popularly used and cost-effective way to improve website and content visibility in search engine results.
SEO is still relevant in 2024 and it’s a core approach used by over 90% of marketers across multiple industries to rank at the top of organic searches in major search engines such as Google, Bing, and Yahoo! Search.
2. Content Marketing
Content marketing involves creating and sharing valuable and relevant contents to attract and retain a target audience. It can include blog posts, articles, videos, infographics, e-books, and more. The goal is to provide value and establishing a strong brand.
How to use Content Marketing?
To effectively use content marketing, you should first identify your target audience and understand their needs, interests and values.
Then, create high-quality contents that align with their needs and distribute them across various channels such as social media, email newsletters, and your blog or website.
Thirdly, analyze the performance of your content marketing efforts with metrics such as website traffic, click-through rates, and conversion rates. These data will help you understand what content resonates best with your audience and allow you to make informed decisions for future content creation.
3. Social Media Marketing
Social media marketing brings a whole new level of interaction and engagement. SMM lets you engage with your customers and followers, build customer relationships, and increase brand advocacy.
On a less lighter note, popular social platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and Pinterest are constantly tweaking their algorithms to find new ways to make money. To keep up with all these changes, learning how to create an effective social media strategy is key to ensure your marketing campaigns continue to be successful.
How to use Social Media Marketing?
It includes creating engaging content, running paid ad campaigns, interacting with followers, and leveraging influencers to reach your target audience on social media platforms.
4. Email Marketing
Email marketing is often used to promote products, share updates and events, as well as to build customer relationships. Unlike the other types digital marketing, this one won’t be affected by any changing algorithms.
While e-commerce sites and retail businesses have seen great success with it, you can use email marketing to build mutually beneficial relationships with your prospects or customers. This can be achieved by adding value to your email content and through personalized communication.
How to use Email Marketing?
Send subscription newsletters, customer welcome emails, seasonal product promotions, tips or a series of emails for customer nurturing.
5. Influencer Marketing
Influencer marketing leverages popular social media personalities or content creators (influencers) to endorse or promote a brand or business.
The influencers’ personal connection with their huge following helps build credibility for brands. Suffice to say, working with influencers can help you reach a larger audience and significantly boost sales.
How to use Influencer Marketing?
I think it’s better to rephrase this question to – “How to work with influencers?”
The process of finding an influencer to work with isn’t a walk in the park. It’s a time-consuming process but one that will be worth your time if you have a marketing strategy in place.
The following checklist can get you on a right track:
1. Define your goals
2. Define your budget because; more followers = higher fees
3. Ask yourself – What type of audience do I want to reach?
4. Reach out to relevant influencer
5. Collaborate!
6. Affiliate Marketing
Affiliate marketing is much like influencer marketing, whereby other people advertise your products or services on their own websites, blogs, or social media pages.
Affiliates receive payment for each lead or purchase that is generated as a result of their promotion. As opposed to paying influencers a large upfront fee, you only pay when desired results are achieved through commission payouts.
It’s also a great way for anyone who has a blog, social media or a YouTube channel to generate passive income.
This form of marketing provides a win-win situation for both the affiliates and businesses from increased exposure and sales.
How to use Affiliate Marketing?
You typically start by setting up an affiliate program. Affiliate networks like Impact, CJ Affiliate and ShareASale provide a platform for businesses to connect with potential affiliates.
Once the program is set up, affiliate marketers can choose products or services to promote by generating unique affiliate links. These links are then shared with their audience through their channels.
When someone clicks on an affiliate link and makes a purchase, the affiliate marketer earns a commission from the sale.
7. Video Marketing
It’s a content strategy that focuses on using videos to engage and promote products or services. It can be in the form of advertisements, tutorials, product demos, testimonials, or branded content.
How to use Video Marketing?
Video marketing should be part of your content marketing strategy as it allows you to engage with your audience on a deeper level.
Embed them into your social media campaigns, website landing pages, blogs and even email marketing.
To optimize your video marketing efforts, consider also using video analytics to measure viewer engagement, so that you can make data-driven decisions to effectively communicate your brand’s message and stand out from the competition.
