Lilianna Lasocka is a painter and illustrator who likes to share her life stories by creating a series of illustration works. A graduate from Wroclaw Academy of Art & Design, Lilianna has been creating art since she was a kid. She participated in the Children and Youth Art Activity Club and had her first exhibition when she was a teenager.
I spoke to her to find out about her inspiration and aspirations, as well as her creative background. Feel free to also check out more of her artworks on her Behance portfolio.
What inspired you to pursue Art & Design?
I chose to study painting and I loved it, but after I graduated I was asked to do some commission works and when I finished, I realised that I have a lot of ideas for my own stories and I decided to go further into illustration and design.
Do you have a role model you look up to as your source of inspiration?
I love watching other illustrators’ and designers’ work on the Internet, in magazines and in children’s books, but I don’t have any specific role model to look at. My most favourite illustrator is Tove Jansson. I was looking at her works when I was illustrating my first book, but I think my style has changed since then. I also like all kinds of retro-style designs and colours, especially the 60s and 70s, but usually when I draw I am just trying to develop my own style and find techniques that suit me the most.
How do you see yourself in ten years time?
I hope I will never stop creating and finding new ideas for my art and design. Maybe I will find some new way of visual expression, as Art is a wide field and I love learning new things. It makes me feel that I am growing up.
Lilianna’s illustration series – ‘Imagination’
When I was three or four years old, I was taking an evening bath in a swimsuit and swimming glasses (for fun of course). My mum left for a moment and I wanted to try these glasses so I put my head under water. I remember my parents taking me out of the water, they thought I was sinking. In these illustrations I was trying to recover what was happening in my imagination.
Lilianna’s illustration series – ‘Adventures of a Striped Ball’
This is a story of the ball who doesn’t want to be bored in one place. It is travelling around the world and finding new adventures. I also like discovering new places so this series is one of my favourite. This is my open project and I am going to continue with it when new ideas come up.
